Summary

The 2020 Div II Indoor Championships was Pembroke's best indoor state meet ever.

There are 43 schools Division II indoors and the girls ended up 21st while the boys tied for 17th.

James had a huge meet. Competing in 3 individual events (Shot Put, High Jump, 55m Hurdles), he set 2 new school records (Shot Put & 55m Hurdles), tied 1 school record (High Jump), and placed 5th in the Shot Put.

Only 2 weeks ago James was ranked 15th in the shot put in the division but he managed a PR last week to qualify for states and another PR this weekend - while running back and forth between 3 events simulataneously - to jump into the medals.

We got a great surprise from the girls' 4x400m team (Lauren, Kaitlin, Iso, Cassidy). I thought they would do well and run a season's best, which they did - by 6.5 seconds. But they also beat the school record and ended up placing 5th as well. The girls definitely peaked at the right time. They went into the race only seeded 11th but all ran season best or PR splits.

Going into the meet we knew the boys' 4x200m team (Tyler, Harry, Jacob, Nick K) had shot at placing and they didn't disappoint. They also broke a school record, which went back to 2013, by 3.5 seconds, and took 5th place.

Tyler ran a good 55m dash at 7.05, only .04 off is best, and had a decent shot put.

The girls' 4x200m ran a good race as well with only one experienced athlete, Ali, and three freshman (Zoie, Rebecca, and Natalie). It was good experience and won't be the last time at the state meet for our freshmen.

Harry had a couple PR worthy long jumps that were barely fouls. We'll be working on steps for the outdoors and once they're consistant he'll be in medal contention.

Pembroke's Indoor Track & Field team has been competing since 2012. This is the first time our girls' have ever medaled in any event at the state meet. It is also the first time any of our relay teams - boys or girls - have medaled at the state meet.

Next year we're shooting for top 10 for both boys' and girls' teams.

Hope to see you all in the spring.
